Our vision

Towards a change in business model!

Mobilité Charlevoix’s vision is clear: to develop a new structure-based local and regional transport network. Despite the pandemic, our organisation has been working to develop this new network since June 2020. Based on universal accessibility for all, this new transport network will connect all local towns to their central city every day and link the two regional county municipalities with interregional connections. The new operations officially began on July 4, 2022.

A project endorsed locally

The CCMC’s development plan is the result of several years of work and discussions with partners from the Chantier transport du Développement social intégré de Charlevoix (Charlevoix Integrated Social Development Transport Project) and other local stakeholders. Since autumn 2020, our team has shared and validated this transport organisation plan, on which the new network will be based, with more than 40 socio-economic partners. In addition, in the autumn of 2021, some 60 businesses in Charlevoix responded to an in-depth survey on workforce mobility issues in Charlevoix, demonstrating the essential need for a more organised service to address an undeniable workforce challenge.

Challenges acknowledged

The Charlevoix Collective Mobility Corporation aims, like other regions in Quebec, to promote the socio-economic development of our community by offering our citizens:

  • A more attractive region thanks to better organised services;
  • Competitive advantage for businesses: retaining and attracting labour;
  • Reduced transport costs for households, avoiding the purchase of a second or third car and thus increasing their purchasing power;
  • An affordable alternative to the car to facilitate access to transport for citizens living in precarious situations or poverty;
  • Easier travel, offering more opportunities for young families or new families to settle;
  • Easier access to employment, shopping and service centres, particularly for residents of small towns;
  • A transportation alternative for young people, particularly for education, to counter isolation and the erosion of their social network;
  • A transportation alternative for seniors, to facilitate their access to local services so that they can remain active and healthy within their families and local towns;
  • Positive impacts on the environment, health and safety of users.

History

Since January 3, 2019, the CCMC has taken over the operations of the two previous public and paratransit services that had been in place for over 20 years. Those services are available by reservation only, 24 hours in advance. Despite this limited offering, in 2019, the CCMC made over 50,000 trips in the Charlevoix region, providing over 1,000 customers with an alternative to driving for work, school, recreation, or access to services.

In 2020, despite a year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, we made nearly 16,000 trips, demonstrating our vital role in the community, as all of these trips were made for essential reasons due to health measures.

In 2021, despite a slow economic recovery punctuated by sporadic access to services, our organization completed more than 30,000 trips.
